House Concurrent Resolution 75

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL HIGH SCHOOL PIRATES SOCCER TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2005-2006 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Pearl High School Pirates Soccer Team finished the 2005-2006 season with an outstanding record of 27-2-1, and winning the Class 4A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the Pirates 2-1 victory over the Gautier Gators led them to their second consecutive and their fourth state 4A title in its sixth consecutive championship game, having won the coveted title previously in 2001, 2002 and 2005; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to the overall Class 4A State Championship and finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the State of Mississippi, the Pirates 27 wins are the greatest number of wins by any team since championship awards began in 1989; and

     WHEREAS, with 14 seniors, Andy Brooks, John Rogers Downs, Aaron Exum, Nick Foster, Matthew Logue, Chase Middleton, Dusty Oubre, Scott Pulliam, Tyler Smith, Aaron Thornton, Tyler Wade, Colby Watson, Eric Watts and Lee Williamson, all of whom have been offered college scholarships, the Pirates have received several individual honors, including the naming of John Rogers Downs, Aaron Thornton and Lee Williamson as First Team All-State Players; and

     WHEREAS, the Pirates have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Brad Biard, who has broadened the Pirates knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Biard, over the last six years as the Pirates coach, has brought additional honor to himself and to Pearl High School by being selected as the 2006 Soccer Coach of the Year for the State of Mississippi, 2005 Co-Coach of the Year for Rankin County, 2003 All-Star Coach and boasting a 124-16-10 record; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl High School Pirates Soccer Team and their coach, Brad Biard, for their outstanding 2005-2006 season, for winning the Class 4A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pearl High School, Coach Brad Biard and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
