A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. DAVID KNOWLES ON BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JEFFERSON DAVIS CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, Dr. David Knowles, a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of his distinguished service to the college; and
WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Knowles, a music and fine arts instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 13 years and has taught for the past 16 years; and
WHEREAS, he received his bachelor of science degree from Mobile College, his master of church music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and his DMA from the University of Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Knowles serves as Chair of the Jefferson Davis Campus Fine Arts Department, served as Director of Coastal Vibrations and Jefferson Davis Campus Singers; and
WHEREAS, having provided musical entertainment for numerous college and community events, Dr. Knowles directed the local singing groups and serves as a voice instructor; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Knowles has sung in numerous opera roles with the Kentucky Opera, Mobile Opera, USM Opera, Pensacola Opera and Gulf Coast Opera and served on the Board of Directors for the Gulf Coast Opera; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Dr. Knowles, who has dedicated his career to teaching the young people of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. David Knowles upon being selected Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to him our heartiest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. David Knowles and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
