House Bill 1342

AN ACT TO REQUIRE PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS IN GRADES SEVEN THROUGH TWELVE TO MAINTAIN A 2.0 CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY SCHOOL ATHLETIC PROGRAM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Beginning with the 2006-2007 school year, in order to be eligible to participate in any athletic program in a public school, a student in Grades 7 through 12 must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 calculated at the end of each grading term, on a 4.0 scale. 

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2006.
