AN ACT TO REQUIRE PLANS, SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACTS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OR REHABILITATION OF CONCRETE BRIDGES BY THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, COUNTIES, MUNICIPALITIES AND POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS TO INCLUDE THE INSTALLATION OF METAL GUARD RAILS ALONG AND APPROACHING THE BRIDGE ABUTMENTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  From and after July 1, 2006, all plans and specifications adopted, and all contracts entered into, by the Mississippi Department of Transportation, or by any county, any municipality or any political subdivision thereof for the construction, reconstruction, repair or rehabilitation of any concrete bridge used or to be used for motor vehicle traffic, shall provide for the installation of metal guard rails along and approaching the bridge abutments, and shall be designed so as to reduce or minimize the potential for damage or injury to motor vehicles and their occupants that may collide therewith.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2006.
