AN ACT TO DESIGNATE MONTGOMERY COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL'S HILL FIRE AS THE FOLK PLAY OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     WHEREAS, Hill Fire, a folk play that is sponsored by the Montgomery County Arts Council, is an innovative play that has revitalized Montgomery County and surrounding areas through storytelling and the arts; and

     WHEREAS, despite an economic downturn, due to the closings of textile and small manufacturing firms in the Montgomery County area, Hill Fire has united the community by preserving local history by using local stories and bringing them to life in the theater; and

     WHEREAS, Hill Fire represents the renewal of community spirit, economic development and inspiring folk art throughout the state; NOW, THEREFORE,

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Montgomery County Arts Council's Hill Fire is designated the state folk play.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2006.
