Senate Resolution 39

(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING NANCY LOOME FOR BEING SELECTED CLINTON MUNICIPAL SEPARATE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S PARENT OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Nancy Loome, the mother of twin daughters who attend Northside Elementary School, has been named the Clinton Municipal Separate School District's "Parent of the Year" for 2004-2005; and

WHEREAS, the Parent of the Year Program was established by the Mississippi Legislature to recognize outstanding parents.  School districts nominate district-level winners, whose applications are sent to the Department of Education for review by an independent selection committee.  Four regional winners are selected, with the overall winner coming from that group; and

WHEREAS, nominated by Northside Elementary officials, Loome was selected for the district honor by a committee from outside the district; and

WHEREAS, research indicates that parental involvement is critical as a predictor in the academic success of a child, and the Clinton schools are most fortunate to have great parental involvement.  As a whole, Mrs. Loome is an advocate for children, teachers and school districts; and

WHEREAS, "Clinton is filled with people who commit enormous amounts of time to volunteer service in our schools and community."  Mrs. Loome said, "It's what makes Clinton such a great place to live and raise our children."  Nancy and James Loome also have a four-year-old son, Jack, who attends First United Methodist Church preschool; and

WHEREAS, Loome has received a Friend of Education Award from the Clinton Public School District.  She was honored in 2004 by the Mississippi PTA as an outstanding legislative advocate.  Loome is involved with the Coalition for Children and Public Education; and

WHEREAS, it is with pride that we note this recognition given by a strong public school system to one of its leading supporters, who serves as an excellent example of civic and educational dedication in the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Nancy Loome of Clinton, Mississippi, for being selected Clinton Municipal Separate School District's "Parent of the Year" for 2004-2005, and extend to her and her family the best wishes of the Senate in their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mrs. Loome, be forwarded to the Superintendent of Clinton Municipal Separate School District and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
