A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHARLES A. ALLMAN, HALL OF FAME FOOTBALL COACH FROM JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HIS POSTHUMOUS INDUCTION INTO THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF COACHES HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2005.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Association of Coaches has selected Coach Charles A. Allman as a member of the 2005 Hall of Fame; and

     WHEREAS, he graduated from Noxapater High School and Mississippi College; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Allman guided football teams of Tyler, Texas, (1970-1971), Jackson Callaway High School (1972-1986) and Jackson Forest Hill High School (1987-1996).  His record in the Jackson Public Schools is 161-107-2; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Allman has been a member of the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) for 25 years; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Allman coached Callaway High School to a perfect 12-0 football season in 1975, winning the Big Eight Conference State title.  He was chosen Coach of the Year for Metro Jackson three times, and Coach of the Year in 5-A Football for Callaway in 1977 by the MAC.  His teams at Callaway had a 33-game winning streak in the '70s.  Callaway High won the Mississippi Bowl in 1981.  He guided Forest Hill High School to the playoffs and retired in 1996; and

     WHEREAS, the late Coach Allman died on September 25, 1998.  He was married to the late Susan Lomax Allman who died on April 7, 1996.  They had twin sons, William Lomax Allman and Mathew Roberts Allman.  He had a great sense of humor, never at a loss for words, and was a hunter and fisherman; and

     WHEREAS, many of his players went on to college football and the pros and successes in businesses here in Mississippi.  Many of Coach Allman's Assistant Coaches went on to be Head High School Coaches across the state, athletic directors and coached on the college level; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Allman had a love for family, his coaches, players and friends, and it is with great pride that we recognize this legendary Mississippi Coach who has left an honorable legacy to his community and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Charles A. Allman, Hall of Fame Football Coach from Jackson, Mississippi, upon his posthumous induction into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame Class of 2005 and extend to his family the best wishes of the Senate on this occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented at the Mississippi Association of Coaches induction ceremonies on July 8, 2005, in Jackson, Mississippi, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
