A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING TRACY TREON MIMS, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SOCIAL WORK AT DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY, FOR EDUCATIONAL AND CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS.

     WHEREAS, Tracy Treon Mims, Assistant Professor of Social Work,Delta State University (DSU), was nominated to the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning for commendation in recognition of Black History Month; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mimsreceived his Master's of Social Work from Jackson State University in 1999; Bachelor of Science Degree from Delta State University in 1986; and Associate of Science Degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College in 1984; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mimshas worked at the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Division of Family and Children's Services, Area Social Work Supervisor, Charleston, Mississippi; Adjunct Professor of Social Work, Mississippi Valley State University; and in September 2004, he joined the staff at DSU as Assistant Professor of Social Work; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mims' civic and community involvement include Chair, Educational Force Committee, West Tallahatchie School District, 1999-2000; Health Educator Boys to Men Mentor, Youth Opportunities, West Tallahatchie and Quitman Counties, 1999-2000; Member, West Tallahatchie Habitat for Humanity Board, 2004-present; and Volunteer with East Bolivar County Department of Human Services, 2004-present; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mims is also the Faculty Sponsor of the Social Work Club at DSU organizing a Halloween party for Mental Health Group Home; organized Christmas gift drive for Habitat children in the Cleveland Community; taught Volunteering in the Community (an intersession, Fall break); and taught Volunteering/Habitat, a course which requires students to work for 40 hours on a Habitat house, working as a team with other community members and volunteer organizations which helps increase cross-cultural exchange and understanding of diversity; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mimsreceived the Walter F. Weathers Award, Social Worker of the Year, 2002; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mims'professional memberships and activities include Secretary for the 34th Annual Alabama/Mississippi Social Work Education Conference, 2005; Phi Kappa Phi (Honor Society), 1999; Social Work Governor's Association, 1996-1999; Instructor, Emerging Leaders, GST 100, Fall 2004-present; and Social Work Club Sponsor, Fall 2004-present:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we take pride in recognizing Tracy Treon Mims, Assistant Professor of Social Work at Delta State University, in observance of Black History Month for his tireless efforts in the field of social work and his work with Habitat for Humanity which is making a difference in the Delta Community.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mr. Mims in recognition of his commitment to higher education, be forwarded to the President of Delta State University and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
