Senate Resolution 5

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MRS. LOUISE WILLIS HOLMAN OF MARKS, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Louise Willis Holman was born December 20, 1934, in Greenwood, Leflore County, Mississippi to Fred and Mary Willis; and

     WHEREAS, she confessed Christ at Burrell Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Falcon, Mississippi.  Later she united with Eudora A.M.E. Zion Church in Marks, Mississippi, where she served faithfully and dutifully until her untimely death; and

     WHEREAS, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Jimmy L. Holman on April 4, 1950.  To this union three daughters were born; and

     WHEREAS, she attended the public schools in Quitman County and graduated from Lambert High School in 1955.  Mrs. Holman was an active and successful entrepreneur in her community; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Holman was an avid member of the Band Boosters Club of Quitman County High School, served as Assistant Superintendent of her Sunday School, Deaconess and Conference Mission Worker for Eudora A.M.E. Zion Church; and

     WHEREAS, on Thursday, January 6, 2005, Mrs. Holman departed this life to live eternally with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; and

     WHEREAS, her surviving family includes:  a loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Jimmie L. Holman; three daughters, Alma Holman and Joyce Holman both of Marks, Mississippi, and Louanne Holman of Jackson, Mississippi; two stepsons, Joe (Linda) Rice of Chicago, Illinois, Manuel (Banatha) Cooper of Memphis, Tennessee; five sisters, Jeffery W. Crittendon of Cleveland Ohio, Dora H. (John) Hare of Memphis, Tennessee; Cora W. (John) McCoullah of Oak Park, Illinois, Annie M. (Raymond) Chevez of Chicago, Illinois, Mildred (Charles) Chatman of Kenosha, Wisconsin; five brothers, S.T. Willis of St. Louis, Missouri, Fred Willis of Detroit, Michigan, R.B. Willis and Marion (Iretha) Willis of Chicago, Illinois, Rev. Leon (Kitty) Willis of Monee, Illinois, Rev. Nelson Willis and Milton (Diane) Willis of Chicago, Illinois; four grandchildren, La Angela (Ashley) Pratcher, Jimmy D. Holman, Louise Lewis and Alexandria Riley; one great-grandchild Ashton Pratcher; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Holman's dedicated service to her church and community serves as a model to all of the citizens of Marks and to the entire State of Mississippi, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this respected citizen:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Mrs. Louise Willis Holman of Marks, Mississippi, and express to her surviving family the sympathy of the Senate on her passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Mrs. Holman and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
