A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING HILLCREST CHRISTIAN SCHOOL COUGARS GIRLS FAST PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2004 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI PRIVATE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION OVERALL TOURNAMENT.

     WHEREAS, the 2004 Cougars Girls Fast Pitch Softball Team consists of the following players:  Kayla Creel, Laura Creel, Danielle Davis, Tiffany Diamond, Kimberly George, Hannah Haguewood, Whitney Hedgepeth, Taylor James, Jessica Killebrew, Ashley Nowell, Kristina Patterson, Laura Leigh Reese, Haley Rowe, Stephany West and Ashley Wroten; and

     WHEREAS, the Cougars have been superbly coached by Head Coach Mike Cauthen and Assistant Coaches Brooke Shelton, Nicole Newton and Dale Reese, who have broadened the Cougars' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Hillcrest Christian School Cougars Girls Fast Pitch Softball Team finished the 2004 regular season with a record of thirty-five wins and ten losses and the 2004 post season with ten wins and no losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Cougars won the 2004 Mississippi Private School Association South AAA Tournament and the Mississippi Private School Association State AAA Tournament; and

     WHEREAS, the Cougars won the 2004 Mississippi Private School Association Overall Tournament; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play this season, including Laura Leigh Reese, Stephany West and Ashley Wroten being named as MPSA All-Stars, and Laura Creel, Danielle Davis, Laura Leigh Reese, Stephany West and Ashley Wroten being named to the MPSA All Conference Second Team; and

     WHEREAS, the Cougars have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Hillcrest Christian School; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that this Legislature recognize and commend this group of student athletes, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hillcrest Christian School Girls Fast Pitch Softball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Mike Cauthen, and Assistant Coaches Brooke Shelton, Nicole Newton and Dale Reese, for their outstanding 2004 season, for winning the 2004 Mississippi Private School Association Overall Tournament and for displaying tireless efforts to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Hillcrest Christian School Head Coach Mike Cauthen, and Assistant Coaches Brooke Shelton, Nicole Newton and Dale Reese, and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
