A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE DELTA ACADEMY "LADY RAIDERS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH CRAIG DAILY FOR WINNING THE DELTA ACADEMY 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Coach Craig Dailey's Delta Academy Lady Raiders girls basketball team from Marks, Mississippi, are the Academy 1A State Champions for the fifth straight year; and

     WHEREAS, it's been that way since the 2000-2001 campaign, go back to 1998-1999 and you'll see where the Lady Raiders were again Champions of the entire Academy 1A membership; and

     WHEREAS, in a nutshell, the Lady Raiders (39-8) are the UCLA of Mississippi basketball.  It was the Bruins who claimed 10 of 12 NCAA titles from 1964-1975, much the same way the Lady Raiders have, by simply dominating; and

     WHEREAS, Delta defeated Marvell Academy for the sixth straight time this year in claiming the coveted winner's trophy.  The contest was never in jeopardy as the Lady Raiders carved out the 53-36 victory over the Lady Eagles; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Raiders were led by Senior Graham Carson who tossed in 26 points in her final home game; and

     WHEREAS, Delta Academy Coach Craig Dailey and assistants David Austin and Adair Easterling had the Lady Raiders playing at a high level with 2004-2005 season victories at the District 2A level and the North State 1A Regional Championship, on their way to their 6th State Academy 1A Championship in the last 7 years; and

     WHEREAS, five Lady Raiders were selected to the All-Tournament Team, including Graham Carson, Christi Bland, Jordan Bailey, Sarah Grace Long and Megan Green (all are Seniors except for Green); and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special accomplishment by these student athletes, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Delta Academy "Lady Raiders" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Craig Daily for winning the Academy 1A State Championship for the fifth consecutive year, and wish them success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Dailey, Headmaster Hoyte Carothers and the Delta Academy Lady Raiders, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
