A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SENATOBIA HIGH SCHOOL "WARRIOR" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH PHIL OAKLEY FOR WINNING THE STATE 3A CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Senatobia High School "Warrior" Football Team is all smiles after their victory in the State 3A Championship game in Jackson, Mississippi, on Saturday, December 4, 2004; and

     WHEREAS, the Warriors beat the West Lauderdale Knights 41-21 for their first state championship title.  This was truly a day no Warrior would forget, with 5,500 excited fans of both teams filling the stadium; and

     WHEREAS, after a long five months and the one disappointing loss to Hernando, this team has done what no other Senatobia team has before.  "Seeing a group of young men grow and be focused for 18 weeks gave me great pleasure as a coach," said Head Coach Phil Oakley, as he graciously accepted the "golden football"; and

     WHEREAS, the City of Senatobia honored the 2004 Senatobia High School Warriors for winning their first 3A State Football Championship.  The ceremony was held at Howard Coliseum on the Northwest Mississippi Community College Campus.  Each coach and player received a medal during the ceremony, which was well attended.  The Senatobia High School Band and cheerleaders were also on hand to congratulate the team.  Mayor Alan Callicott, Superintendent Mike Flynn, Senatobia High School Principal Jerry Barrett, and Senatobia School Board President DeWitt Hawkins all publicly congratulated the team; and

     WHEREAS, after accumulating a 14-1 team record, the team won the Division 3 Championship and North Mississippi Regional Championship before advancing to the State Championship, and the following team members received individual honors:  Davell Jackson, All-State, All-Division 3A Player of the Year; Sean Johnson, All-State, All-Division; Taylor Walker, All-Division, Player of the Game in the State Championship Game; and Jonathan Jackson, Jim Simpson, Charlie Zettergren and Jairius Webb, All-Division; and

     WHEREAS, the following is the team roster:  No. 1, Ketwyne Bowen; No. 2, Chad Garrett; No. 3, Jairius Webb; No. 4, Jeremy Rodgers; No. 5, Ivan Sandridge; No. 6, Nigel Collins; No. 7, Sean Johnson; No. 8, Jim Simpson; No. 9, Jonathan Jackson; No. 10, Santonio McGhee; No. 13, Davell Jackson;  No. 16, J.      WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the achievements of this group of student athletes, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Senatobia High School "Warrior" Football Team and Head Coach Phil Oakley for winning the State 3A Championship and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature for continued success in their athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Oakley and Principal Jerry Barrett for the team and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
