AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 47-5-79, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS TO INSTALL AND OPERATE THE TELEPHONES FOR INMATES WHEN THE CONTRACTS WITH THE PROVIDERS OF SUCH EQUIPMENT EXPIRE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 47-5-79, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
47-5-79. (1) All contracts for the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment and sustenance for the offenders of the correctional system shall be made under the provisions of the State Purchasing Law, same being Sections 31-7-1 through 31-7-55.
(2) When the contracts with the providers of the telephones for offenders expire, the department shall install and operate the telephones provided for the use by offenders in Parchman, Central Mississippi Correctional Facility and the South Mississippi Correctional Facility.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
