Senate Bill 2381

AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROVIDE A CERTAIN DISTANCE OF VISIBILITY FOR EACH LANE OF TRAFFIC WHEN TWO STATE HIGHWAYS INTERSECT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  When a state highway intersects another state highway, the Mississippi Department of Transportation shall provide at least two thousand five hundred (2,500) feet of visibility from a point on each lane of traffic to the intersection.  This requirement shall not apply if there is an overpass or underpass at the intersection of the state highways.

     (2)  The visibility requirement shall apply to the new construction of state highways and the reconstruction of existing state highways.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
