House Resolution 96

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND OBSERVING THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF V-E DAY.

     WHEREAS, the 60th anniversary of V-E Day is upcoming; and

     WHEREAS, many Mississippians sacrificed their time, their money, their health and some their lives to achieve that victory; and

     WHEREAS, the book and movie, Band of Brothers, was written by a Mississippi resident, Stephen Ambrose, which exemplified the courage and sacrifices of Company E, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division; and

     WHEREAS, this company of brave men contained Mississippians, one of whom still survives; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and pay homage to these valiant men and soldiers who displayed selfless devotion to their fellow comrades and to this nation as evidenced by their heroic wartime efforts:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we wish to express thanks to all Mississippi World War II veterans in observance of the 60th Anniversary of V-E Day by presenting this resolution to Mr. Bradford Freeman of Caledonia, Mississippi, a surviving veteran of Company E, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a representation of all Mississippi veterans of World War II.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Bradford Freeman and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
