A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JACK LINTON UPON BEING NAMED 2003-2004 MISSISSIPPI PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Jack Linton, Principal of Petal High School, was recently named 2003-2004 Mississippi Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and Met Life; and

     WHEREAS, under his astute leadership, Petal High School has seen substantial academic growth as it has achieved and maintained the status of Level 5 Accreditation since 2000, in addition to having the 2003-2004 class of graduating seniors score above the national average on the ACT; and

     WHEREAS, while serving as principal at Petal High School, Principal Linton has overseen the implementation of advanced academic programs such as Freshmen Mentoring and Freshmen Challenge, which have proven beneficial in assisting incoming freshmen in making the transition from middle school to high school; and

     WHEREAS, Principal Linton's initiation of these programs and the 6x2 school schedule has helped reduce freshmen discipline problems by forty percent and has allowed greater flexibility in scheduling; and

     WHEREAS, no stranger to honorary recognition, Principal Linton was named Administrator of the Year for the 2001-2002 school term by the Petal School District and received a Meritorious Service commendation during the 2002-2003 school term from the Pine Belt Counseling Association; and

     WHEREAS, Principal Linton, as a widely acclaimed speaker, has made presentations at various school districts and conferences, both locally and nationally, on the topics of "Impact of Arts on Academics," "Freshmen Mentoring," "Creating Fun on the Job" and "Freshmen Transition"; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and commend excellence, especially when exhibited by capable educational administrators such as Principal Linton, whose leadership ability has brought great pride to Petal High School and the Petal School District:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jack Linton upon his selection as 2003-2004 Mississippi Principal of the Year and express our warmest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Principal Jack Linton, the Petal School District School Board and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
