House Resolution 85

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MCPETERS FUNERAL HOME IN CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI, ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.

     WHEREAS, from the days of the horse-drawn hearse to today's limousines and coaches, the McPeters name has been synonymous with sincere and caring service in the time of sorrow; and

     WHEREAS, McPeters Funeral Home in Corinth, Mississippi, was founded in 1905 by W.T. McPeters and Dave Hindman, whose goal was to provide burial insurance and economical funeral service to North Mississippi and the surrounding area; and

     WHEREAS, in 1916, J.R. (Bob) McPeters and W.L. McPeters, two brothers, bought out their uncle, the business prospered and upon the death of W.L. McPeters, his son joined the business; and

     WHEREAS, later, young Bill, the son of J.R. McPeters, also joined the business and they continued to work together until the death of J.R. McPeters in 1949, and in 1954, Bill bought out his cousin to become the sole owner of the family business; and

     WHEREAS, in 1978, the mortuary, located on Waldron Street, moved to its present facility on East Third Street, and continues to maintain a high standard of excellence; and

     WHEREAS, since buying the business, Bill McPeters has conducted over 10,000 funerals and the man as well as the funeral home is held in high regard when it comes to funerals and community service; and

     WHEREAS, Bill McPeters has stood out as one of the most colorful and unique undertakers to practice his trade and is beloved throughout Corinth, Alcorn County and all Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend such outstanding business institutions as McPeters Funeral Home, which has served as the cornerstone of compassion and service and the bedrock of generational success in Corinth and surrounding areas:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend McPeters Funeral Home in Corinth, Mississippi, on its 100th Anniversary and wish them well in future years.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Bill McPeters, McPeters Funeral Home and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
