House Resolution 83

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JOHN MOOR UPON BEING AWARDED THE 2005 YOUNG FARMER OF THE YEAR BY THE LEFLORE-GREENWOOD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

     WHEREAS, John Moor was honored and received the Leflore-Greenwood Chamber of Commerce 2005 Young Farmer of the Year Award at the chamber's annual "Salute to Agriculture"; and

     WHEREAS, John, who lives near Greenwood at Fort Loring in Leflore County, is a Mississippi State University graduate holding a business degree and is the proud husband of Lynda Moor and father of two, Britain and Maggie; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating, he worked for E.F. Hutton in Chicago, Illinois, where he won the National Chartist of the Year in 1986 for predicting future prices of livestock, grain and financial commodities; and

     WHEREAS, after returning to the family's farming operation at Fort Loring in 1996, John farms 800 acres of cotton, 300 acres of soybeans, and additionally oversees 1,500 acres of family-owned farmland leased to other farmers; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to being a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenwood, John's agricultural activities and affiliations consist of the LeCo Gin Board, Staplcotn and Stapldiscount, Farmers Supply, the National Resource Conservation Service and a 4-H volunteer; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute to citizens like John Moor, who symbolizes hard work and dedication in Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate John Moor upon being honored with the Leflore-Greenwood Chamber of Commerce 2005 Young Farmer of the Year Award.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to John Moor and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
