A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE DEDICATED AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE OF DR. ANNE BROOKS OF THE TUTWILER CLINIC AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON BEING CHOSEN A RECIPIENT OF THE 2005 PRIDE IN THE PROFESSION AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Sister Anne Brooks, D.O. and Chief Administrator of the Tutwiler Clinic in Tutwiler, Mississippi, was one of four doctors in the nation to receive the American Medical Association Foundation's 2005 Pride in the Profession Award on March 12, 2005, in Washington, D.C.; and

     WHEREAS, the Pride in the Profession Award honors physicians who, through their service, bring a sense of pride to the medical profession and whose actions promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health; and

     WHEREAS, born in Washington, D.C., Dr. Brooks entered the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in July 1955, graduated cum laude from Barry University, Miami, Florida, in 1970 and received the Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) at the age of 44 after a career in teaching, school administration and directing the St. Petersburg Free Clinic in Florida; and

     WHEREAS, having opened the Tutwiler Clinic in 1983 to fulfill a desire to serve as a family practice doctor in a medically underserved area, Dr. Brooks is the clinic's only doctor, who, in addition to fulfilling her duties and obligations therein, also served as Chief of Staff at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center from 2000 to 2002; and

     WHEREAS, for her involvement in many community activities on various subject matters, Dr. Brooks, who has been featured in many magazine articles and some television spots through the years, has been honored with the Martin Luther King, Jr., Award by the International Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Outstanding Commitment and Devotion to Serving Humanity Award by the Tallahatchie Development League; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the diligence and achievements of outstanding professionals such as Dr. Brooks, who is dedicated to serving the citizens of Tallahatchie and surrounding counties by providing quality and affordable health care:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Anne Brooks upon her selection as a 2005 Pride in the Profession Award recipient and express our most sincere wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Anne Brooks and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
