House Resolution 61

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATED SERVICE OF THE MISSISSIPPI HOMEMAKER VOLUNTEERS CLUBS OF CARROLL COUNTY.

     WHEREAS, since 1918, when the first "Tomato Clubs" were formed for girls and young homemakers, Carroll County has been blessed with many involved women; and

     WHEREAS, now, as Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers (MHV), their vision statement describes their efforts very well, as the organization is a leader in strengthening families, training leaders, and promoting education and community service; and

     WHEREAS, with two MHV clubs in Carroll County, the Beatty Chapter and the Brownline Chapter, both serving the Vaiden Community, collectively form the Carroll County MHV Council and make Carroll County a better place to live; and

     WHEREAS, in 2004, MHV volunteer hours to Carroll County and the State of Mississippi are valued at $149,931.48, with the average club member donating 406 hours of volunteer service; and

     WHEREAS, on March 1, 2005, awards were presented for outstanding contributions to club members for their services in the following areas:  Best Secretary Record, Best Club Program, Best Club Project, Best Attendance at Council Meetings, Best Club Average Attendance, Best Food Preservation Record, Best Use of Leader Training Information, Reading Awards, County Educational Chairman Award, Community Service, Friends of 4-H Award and the Woman Outside the Home Award; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend volunteerism and community service by clubs and organizations such as the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers clubs of Carroll County:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the dedicated service of the members of the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers clubs of Carroll County for their contributions to the community and express our warmest wishes for continued success in their future endeavors.   

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Presidents of the Beatty and Brownline chapters of the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
