House Resolution 58

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PILLOW ACADEMY LADY MUSTANGS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON OF PLAY FOR 2005 AND WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI PRIVATE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Pillow Academy Lady Mustangs Basketball Team finished the 2005 season with an impressive record of 40-2 in regular season play, winning the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) Overall State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the 2005 Lady Mustangs clinched the MPSA Overall State title after defeating Jackson Prep by a score of 41-28, bringing additional honor to the team which had also won the North 3A Championship and the Division I Tournament Championship; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated and superior play and their hard work this season, including:  the naming of Clansey Flautt as North 3A Most Valuable Player; the selection of Clansey Flautt, Meagan Webb, Katie Buford, Mariclaire Fancher to the North 3A All-Conference, MPSA All-Star, State 3A Tournament and Overall All-Tournament Teams; the naming of Clansey Flautt and Katie Buford to the Class 3A Tournament Team; and the selection of Elizabeth Pillow to the North 3A All-Conference Team; and

     WHEREAS, other members of the Lady Mustangs Team include:  Mary Elizabeth Harper, Ashlyn Brown, Betsy Nelson, Lauren Coleman, Laura Hall, Katie Fondren and Brittaney Davis; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Mustangs have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Durwin Carpenter and Assistant Coach Mignon Hodges, who have broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, a self-disciplined and self-motivated team, the Lady Mustangs have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

     WHEREAS, they have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Pillow Academy; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pillow Academy Lady Mustangs Basketball Team and their coaches for their phenomenal 2005 season, for winning the MPSA Overall State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pillow Academy, Head Coach Durwin Carpenter, Assistant Coach Mignon Hodges and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
