House Resolution 47

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL 24, 2005, AS THE CITY OF CLINTON'S DAY OF PRAYER IN OBSERVANCE OF "SOMEBODY'S PRAYING ME THROUGH," A CELEBRATION OF GOD'S POWER THROUGH PRAYING PEOPLE.

WHEREAS, prayer is a part of our nation's and state's heritage and from General Washington's struggle at Valley Forge to the present time, this nation has fervently sought and received divine guidance as it pursued the course of history, and this occasion provides our community with an opportunity to further recognize the source of our blessings, and to seek God's help for the challenges we face today as well as those we may face in the future; and

WHEREAS, Sunday, April 24, 2005, will be observed by the citizens of Clinton, gathering for prayer at Mississippi College Coliseum, recognizing the sovereignty of God and asking that His blessings lighten our burdens and illuminate our way to truth; and

WHEREAS, the Clinton Day of Prayer is an opportunity for Clintonians of all faiths to be united in prayer, to acknowledge dependence on God, to give thanks for blessings received, to request healing for our land, to ask God to guide our national, state and local leaders, and to bring wholesomeness to the United States and her citizens; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to give thanks to God by observing a Day of Prayer in the City of Clinton when all may acknowledge God's blessings and express gratitude for them, while recognizing the need for strengthening religious and moral values in our city, state and nation; and

WHEREAS, ushering in the spirit of praise and prayer in observation of the day's festivities, 275 voices and orchestral instruments, under the direction of John and Kathy Langworthy, will combine as the Morrison Heights Baptist Church Celebration Choir, Orchestra and Won By One College Choir perform in exaltation of God's Kingdom; and

WHEREAS, a collective body of believers that petitions God daily for guidance, direction and wisdom as we strive to be diligent in carrying out the business of the State of Mississippi, we find it most heartening that the citizens of Clinton would lead by example in dedicating and observing a Day of Prayer for its citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize April 24, 2005, as the Clinton Day of Prayer.
