House Resolution 23

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING PAUL COLLINS UPON BEING NAMED "OUTSTANDING CITIZEN" BY THE BILOXI LIONS CLUB.

     WHEREAS, Paul Collins, a World War II veteran and father of nine who developed subdivisions in Biloxi and Gulfport, was named Biloxi's "Outstanding Citizen" for 2004 by the Biloxi Lions Club; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Collins is the seventy-fourth recipient of this honor, which celebrates deeds done in the previous year and those performed over the nominee's lifetime; and

     WHEREAS, at age 81, Mr. Collins continues in the grand tradition of the great leaders and citizens of the coastal community through the giving and sharing of his many gifts and talents; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Collins humbly credited his parents with instilling in him the virtues of community service, is a member emeritus of the Bancorp South Advisory Board, past president of the Home Builders Association of the Mississippi Coast, a 58-year member of the American Legion, 16-year member of the Edgewater Rotary Club and former vice president of the Chamber of Commerce; and

     WHEREAS, having also worked with Back Bay Mission and Habitat for Humanity, Mr. Collins' dedication to the community has been praised by Biloxi's Mayor, A.J. Holloway, for his positive impact; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence in such outstanding citizens as Mr. Collins, whose contributions to the Biloxi community will have a tremendous impact upon the city's citizens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Paul Collins upon his selection as 2004 Outstanding Citizen and extend our warmest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Collins and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
