House Concurrent Resolution 93

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON ACADEMY COUGARS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2004-2005 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Simpson Academy Cougars Football Team finished the 2004-2005 season with an outstanding undefeated record of 14-0, and winning the Class 2A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, with a 27-game winning streak over the past seasons, the Cougars clenched the 2004 District Championship and North State Championship in addition to the coveted state 2A title; and

     WHEREAS, led by five seniors, Brian Little, Justin Duckworth, Justin Sanford, Jack Hayes and Dan Napier, who have a three-year record of 38-1, three district championships and back-to-back state titles, the Cougars had four players named to the All-State Team, four named to the All-Star Team and 17 players named to the All-District Team; and

     WHEREAS, with an ardent zeal for academics, the team has a 3.0 overall GPA and a 23.9 average ACT score, with all five seniors signing college scholarships and Dan Napier, who has a 31 ACT score, signed with Harvard; and

     WHEREAS, the Simpson Academy Cougars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Billy Hankins and Assistant Coaches David Holbrook, Neill Bartling, Winston Mullins, Shey Patterson and Greg Hall, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Hankins and the coaching staff have brought additional honor to themselves and to Simpson Academy by being named as the District and State Coaching Staff of the Year by the Mississippi Private School Association; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson Academy Cougars Football Team and their coaches for their outstanding 2004-2005 season, for winning the Class 2A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Simpson Academy, Head Coach Billy Hankins, Assistant Coaches David Holbrook, Neill Bartling, Winston Mullins, Shey Patterson, Greg Hall and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
