House Concurrent Resolution 77

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SUCCESS OF DR. HOWARD DEAN UPON HIS CAREER AND POLITICAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND EXPRESSING APPRECIATION UPON BEING CHOSEN AS GUEST SPEAKER FOR THE "DEMOCRATIC ELECTED OFFICIALS APPRECIATION DINNER."

     WHEREAS, Dr. Howard Brush Dean III, born November 17, 1948, in New York City, is the former Governor of Vermont and newly Chairman of the National Democratic Party; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dean, who graduated from Yale University in 1971, and received his doctor of medicine degree from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in 1978, was a practicing physician until becoming Governor of Vermont on August 14, 1991, upon the death of Richard A. Snelling and subsequently successfully sought reelection five times; and

     WHEREAS, having announced his candidacy for the 2004 Presidential Election, Dr. Dean emerged as a front-runner for the Democratic nomination, espousing health care and fiscal responsibility as two of his major campaign platform issues; and

     WHEREAS, possessing a passion for life and a passion to help people change by sharing a message that transcends age, social class, race and gender, Dr. Dean has been chosen as special guest orator for the "Democratic Elected Officials Appreciation Dinner" on March 1, 2005; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence in such an outstanding and exemplary individual as Dr. Howard Dean, whose commitment to the betterment of our nation is evidenced by his dedication to raising governmental and political awareness through his motivational speaking:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Dr. Howard Brush Dean III on his many achievements, bid him our warmest welcome to the State of Mississippi and express our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Dean and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
