House Concurrent Resolution 67

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MARK CUMBEST UPON BEING NAMED RECIPIENT OF THE 2005 WHO'S WHO IN BUSINESS AWARD BY THE MISSISSIPPI BUSINESS JOURNAL.

     WHEREAS, Mark Cumbest, broker-owner of Cumbest Realty Inc., was recently honored as recipient of the 2005 Who's Who in Business Award by the Mississippi Business Journal at the 2005 Mississippi Business and Technology Expo; and

     WHEREAS, having founded Cumbest Realty Inc., in 1975 after graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi where he majored in real estate and insurance, Cumbest received the award in the category of chief executive officer of firms ranging in personnel size from one to twenty-five; and

     WHEREAS, not a stranger to success and recognition, Mr. Cumbest's achievements include being named Land Realtor of America in 1991; selected National President of the Realtors Land Institute in 1995; named Mississippi Realtor of the Year and "Today's Realtor" by Today's Realtor Magazine in 1997; became youngest inductee into the Mississippi Realtor Hall of Fame in 1999; selected in 2002 as one of the Top Ten South Mississippi Community Leaders; and inducted into the Roland Weeks Leadership Hall of Fame; and

     WHEREAS, holding the Accredited Land Consultants Designation of the Realtors Land Institute, Mr. Cumbest is a five-time recipient of the Realtor of the Year Award for the East Gulf Coast Board of Realtors and four-time recipient by the Mississippi Chapter of the Realtors Land Institute; and

     WHEREAS, current board chair of The United Methodist Hour, a radio television ministry based in Hattiesburg, Mr. Cumbest is a member of the Caswell Springs United Methodist Church where he serves on the building committee, teaches Sunday School and serves as finance chairman; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Cumbest is a member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Economic Development Council, the Real Estate Council of the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation, and is very active in various civic, political and fraternal organizations; and

     WHEREAS, over the years he has enjoyed the support, love and inspiration given him by his family:  wife, Pamela; and sons, Grant and Reid; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence in such outstanding businessmen as Mr. Cumbest, whose perseverance and determination has garnered him much respect and recognition and brings great pride to his state, community and family:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mark Cumbest upon being named recipient of the 2005 Who's Who in Business Award and extend our warmest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Mark Cumbest and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
