House Bill 1745

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF GREENVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, TO PURCHASE REAL PROPERTY WITHIN THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF THE CITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING THEREON A CONVENTION CENTER AND FOR FURNISHING, EQUIPPING, OPERATING AND MAINTAINING SUCH FACILITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The governing authorities of the City of Greenville, Mississippi, are authorized, in their discretion, to purchase or acquire such real property within the downtown area of the city as they deem necessary for the purpose of constructing thereon a convention center.  The governing authorities may expend monies from any available sources for such purpose and for furnishing, equipping, operating and maintaining such facility, including employing individuals and contracting for the employment of individuals to perform needed labor and services related to the construction, operation, maintenance and promotion of the facility.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
