AN ACT TO RENAME THE ROSS BARNETT LAKE IN MIZE, MISSISSIPPI, THE PRENTISS WALKER LAKE; TO AUTHORIZE TRANSFER OF THE CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT OF THE LAKE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE, FISHERIES AND PARKS TO THE PAT HARRISON WATERWAY DISTRICT, ANOTHER STATE AGENCY, A COUNTY, A MUNICIPALITY OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION THAT AGREES TO ACCEPT THE LAKE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Ross Barnett Lake located in Mize, Mississippi, in Smith County, is renamed the Prentiss Walker Lake.   The control and management of the lake may be transferred from the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to the Pat Harrison Waterway District, another state agency, a county, a municipality or other political subdivision that agrees to accept the lake.  Any reference in state law to the Ross Barnett Lake shall be deemed to mean the Prentiss Walker Lake.  The Board of Directors of the Pat Harrison Waterway District, or the governing authorities of the agency or political subdivision accepting the lake, shall place a distinctive plaque in a prominent place near the Prentiss Walker Lake, which states the background, accomplishments and service to the state of the Honorable Prentiss Walker.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
