AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 73-13-35, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO ALLOW OUT-OF-STATE PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS WITH 25 YEARS EXPERIENCE TO BE LICENSED WITHOUT EXAMINATION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 73-13-35, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     73-13-35.  The board may, upon application therefor and the payment of a fee in accordance with Section 73-13-25, issue a certificate of licensure as a professional engineer to:  (a) any person who holds a certificate of qualification or licensure issued to him by proper authority of any state or territory or possession of the United States, or of any country, provided that the applicant's qualifications meet the requirements of Sections 73-13-1 through 73-13-45 and the rules established by the board; or (b) any licensed professional engineer in good standing and currently engaged in the practice of engineering with at least twenty-five (25) years of licensed experience and a masters degree in a field of engineering from a school or college approved by the board as of satisfactory standing, without examination, provided such professional engineer makes application with the board by September 30, 2005.  The provisions of this paragraph (b) shall stand repealed on October 1, 2005.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
