House Bill 1279

AN ACT TO REQUIRE APPOINTED ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING JUVENILES IN YOUTH COURT TO ANNUALLY OBTAIN CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION RELATED TO YOUTH COURT PRACTICE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Any attorney who is appointed as a public defender to represent juveniles in youth court shall annually obtain a minimum number of continuing legal education hours on youth court practice and procedures as determined and regulated by The Mississippi Bar.  Such continuing legal education shall include courses on the Youth Court Law, criminal law, Americans with Disabilities Act and other relevant topics related to youth court practice.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
