House Bill 1223

AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE PARENT, LEGAL GUARDIAN OR LEGAL CUSTODIAN OF A MINOR TO BE PRESENT AT ANY LEGAL PROCEEDING INVOLVING THE MINOR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Whenever a minor is required to attend any proceeding in any court of this state, the minor's parent, legal guardian or legal custodian shall be present with the child.  For the purposes of this section the term "minor" means any person under the age of eighteen (18) years.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
