House Bill 930

AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE DISPLAY OF CERTAIN CHARGE, CREDIT AND DEBIT CARD INFORMATION UPON RECEIPTS IN SALES TRANSACTIONS; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  It shall be unlawful for any person or merchant who accepts a charge card, credit card or debit card for payment in any electronic sales transaction to display on the receipt documenting the transaction the card number, less the four (4) digits, the expiration date of the credit card or the personal identification number (PIN) associated with the charge card, credit card or debit card.  Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be subject to a fine not to exceed One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) or to imprisonment for a term not to exceed one (1) year, or both.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
