House Bill 597

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT ANY STUDENT IN GRADES SEVEN THROUGH TWELVE ENROLLED IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL IN MISSISSIPPI SHALL NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY ATHLETIC PROGRAM UNLESS THAT STUDENT MAINTAINS A 2.0 GRADE POINT AVERAGE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Beginning with the 2005-2006 school year, any student in Grades 7 through 12 enrolled in a public school of this state shall not participate in any athletic program unless that student maintains a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. 

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
