AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 37-9-13, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE ALL SUPERINTENDENTS OF SCHOOLS TO HAVE THREE YEARS OF ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE, ONE OF WHICH MUST BE AT THE SCHOOL BUILDING LEVEL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 37-9-13, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     37-9-13.  Each school district shall have a superintendent of schools, selected in the manner provided by law.  No person shall be eligible to the office of superintendent of schools unless that person * * * holds a valid administrator's license issued by the State Department of Education and has not less than three (3) years of administrative experience, one (1) of which must be as an administrator at an individual school.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
