AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT, UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY A HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER, THE MUNICIPAL POLICE, IN CITIES WITH A POPULATION OF LESS THAN 2,500, SHALL NOT SET UP A ROADBLOCK ON A STATE HIGHWAY OR OTHER ROADWAY THAT IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY AND THAT IS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE CITY FOR MAINTENANCE PURPOSES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Unless accompanied by a highway patrol officer, the municipal police, in any municipality of this state with a population of less than two thousand five hundred (2,500), shall not set up a roadblock on a state highway or other roadway that is located within the municipality and that is under the jurisdiction of the municipality for maintenance purposes.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2005.
