A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAREER AND DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE OF VETERAN EDUCATOR JAMES THOMAS (TOMMY) FOSTER, PRINCIPAL AT GUNTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, veteran teacher and administrator in the Lee County School District and Lafayette County School District, James Thomas (Tommy) Foster is retiring after 33 1/2 years as a respected educator; and

     WHEREAS, Tommy Foster presently serves as Principal at Guntown Middle School, where he is known as an effective administrator whose ultimate goal is student well-being and proficiency in reading and mathematics; and

     WHEREAS, Tommy Foster was born on May 8, 1947, graduated from Yocona High School in Oxford, Mississippi in May of 1965, and graduated from the University of Mississippi (Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education-June 1969) and (Masters Degree in Education-August 1972); and

     WHEREAS, he taught for 1 year in the Quitman County schools in Marks, Mississippi, before serving from 1970-1996 as a Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal in the Lafayette County School District, served temporarily at Coffeeville High School and as Principal at Parkwood School in Olive Branch, Mississippi, before his final tenure of 5 years in the Lee County School District at Shannon Elementary and Guntown Middle School; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the dedicated service of this professional educator who has brought experience and leadership to the children of his community and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. James Thomas (Tommy) Foster, Principal at Guntown Middle School in the Lee County School District, for his dedicated service as educator and administrator upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Senate for their future success and happiness.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Tommy Foster and his family, be forwarded to the Superintendent of the Lee County School District and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
