A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF KEMPER COUNTY AND EAST MISSISSIPPI OF MICHAEL "MIKE" J. MCGREVEY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE KEMPER COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.
WHEREAS, Michael "Mike" J. McGrevey, an economic developer, civic leader and friend to many charitable organizations, will depart as Executive Director of the Kemper County Economic Development Authority on April 30, 2004; and
WHEREAS, under Mike McGrevey's visionary leadership, the Kemper County Economic Development Authority has become a powerful force for creating quality jobs and economic development throughout the East Mississippi Region that has benefited and raised the standard of living for many; and
WHEREAS, Mike McGrevey is a great friend of educators and students. He created The Kemper Foundation that has developed and funded motivational programs such as BUG Plus, Students Teaching Students, Success Through Collaborations, M-STEP and Leader Scholars Scholarship Program; and
WHEREAS, Mike McGrevey works tirelessly to improve our communities and especially the lives of those in need: As Chairman of the Key Chapter of Red Cross serving seven counties, he expanded the services and resources provided to those in their time of need; serving on the Executive Board of the Choctaw Council Boy Scouts of America, he has championed the establishment of a strong region-wide in-school scouting program to reach those who otherwise would not have the opportunity to participate; and he serves on many other civic and religious boards; and
WHEREAS, Mike McGrevey's greatest legacy is that he taught the citizens of Kemper County and East Mississippi to believe in themselves and that anything is possible when you work together as a team, as represented by his slogan "Many Dreams-One Team":
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished service of Michael "Mike" J. McGrevey and express our sincere gratitude.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented at the reception honoring Michael "Mike" J. McGrevey for his distinguished public service, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
