A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF ARTHUR MICHAEL GILL AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Arthur Michael Gill departed this earthly life to enter into the eternal presence of his Lord on March 29, 2004; and

     WHEREAS, Arthur Michael Gill was a well-known athlete from Biloxi, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Arthur Michael Gill was a member of the 1962 undefeated Biloxi High School Championship Football Team and he was awarded the Outstanding Lineman Trophy in the 1962 Shrimp Bowl; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his football prowess, he held the shot-put record at Biloxi High School for a number of years; and

     WHEREAS, he played football at the University of Southern Mississippi and was the Defensive Captain his Senior year; and

     WHEREAS, after his collegiate career, he was drafted by the NFL Green Bay Packers and he elected to play in the Canadian Football League for the Hamilton Tiger Cats; and

     WHEREAS, after his professional football career, he entered the teaching profession as a Coach until he was employed by the United States Army as a Recreational Specialist; and

     WHEREAS, at the time of his retirement in 1993, he was a General Manger of Recreation and Other Services; and

     WHEREAS, during his service with the military he served at various military bases stateside and overseas, including Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Alton, Illinois; Bamburg, Germany; Iwakuni, Japan; and South Korea; and

     WHEREAS, after his retirement from federal service, he continued to work and was employed by the Biloxi Port Commission and the Mississippi Department of Transportation; and

     WHEREAS, Arthur Michael Gill will be greatly missed by his surviving family:  wife, Pamela, and three daughters and two grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate to commend the lives of remarkable individuals as Arthur Michael Gill who touched the lives of all those that he met:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Arthur Michael Gill and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Arthur Michael Gill.
