A RESOLUTION COMMENDING CHRISTY WINDHAM UPON BEING SELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE NATIONAL FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA (FFA) SOUTHERN REGION.

     WHEREAS, Christy Windham, the 19-year old daughter of James and Robin Windham of Laurel, Mississippi and a Jones County Junior College (JCJC) student, was named 2003-2004 National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Southern Region Vice President of the nearly half-million member organization at the 2003 National FFA Convention; and

     WHEREAS, having begun her FFA experience while in third grade, Christy realized the potential leadership opportunities afforded by the organization, persevering in learning the skills that would prove beneficial to her in life; and

     WHEREAS, one of six individuals elected from a field of 37 candidates to hold national office, Christy will fulfill her position by traveling more than 100,000 miles, visiting approximately 40 states, meeting top leaders in business, government and education and participating in an international experience tour to Japan; and

     WHEREAS, her responsibilities to the establishment of nearly 500,000 FFA members, whose mission is to prepare for leadership and careers in science, business and technology of agriculture, will include providing personal growth and leadership training for students, setting policies that shape the future of the organization and promoting agricultural literacy; and       WHEREAS, Christy, a member of the Northeast Jones Chapter of FFA, has been involved in several supervised agricultural experiences (SAE) and is active on the JCJC campus with the Baptist Student Union, Concert Choir and College Republicans; her future career goal is to serve the agriculture industry in a corporate setting by lobbying for legislation; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize the leadership accomplishments of this college student who has brought honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Christy Windham on being elected to the office of the Vice President for the National FFA Southern Region and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Christy Windham and her family and be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
