A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE JACKSON "SENATORS" PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2003 CENTRAL BASEBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT SMITH-WILLS STADIUM.

     WHEREAS, by producing a quality product of professional baseball and utilizing a wide variety of fun and imaginative promotions, the Jackson "Senators" Professional Baseball Team has achieved success at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, after winning the Central Baseball League (CBL) Eastern Division Pennants in 2002 and 2003, the Jackson Senators won the 2003 CBL Championship before a wildly-appreciative crowd; and

     WHEREAS, the Jackson Senators appeal to all demographic groups, catering primarily to families by promoting a relaxed, affordable fun atmosphere in the most beautiful minor league baseball facility in the Deep South; and

     WHEREAS, the new Senators follow the old Jackson Senators, the Mets, the Generals and the Diamond Kats as Jackson professional baseball teams; and

     WHEREAS, the Jackson Senators' accomplishments at Smith-Wills Stadium are a matter of record:

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this exciting sports organization which brings honor to the Capitol City and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Jackson Senators Professional Baseball Team and General Manager Craig Brasfield for winning the 2003 Central Baseball League Championship, for their contributions to Smith-Wills Stadium and to the quality of life in Jackson, Mississippi, and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Jackson Senators organization, be forwarded to the Mayor of the City of Jackson, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
