Senate Concurrent Resolution 594

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MANY YEARS OF CHARITABLE SERVICE AND CIVIC LEADERSHIP OF HONORABLE EARNEST WHITE OF BELZONI, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Honorable Earnest White of Belzoni, Mississippi, has spent over 30 years rendering public and charitable service to the citizens of the Mississippi Delta and surrounding areas through his tenure on the Belzoni Board of Aldermen, the Board of Directors for Mississippi Action for Community Education and many other charitable and civic organizations; and

     WHEREAS, the lives of many individuals have been changed in a positive direction because of Mr. White's untiring efforts to foster a better educational environment and quality of life; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. White was an influential member of the Delta Community while serving as Alderman for the City of Belzoni, Mississippi, representing Ward Two for terms from 1988-1997; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. White's impressive civic awards, certificates and proclamations are a matter of record:  Friends of Children of Mississippi, Inc., Distinguished Award for Outstanding Human Services (1965-1971); Lifetime Achievement Award, Vice Chairman and Chairman of Friends of Children of Mississippi, Inc., (1967-2002); Leadership Award, Hill Lodge 811 and Hill Temple 783 (1977); Federation of Southern Cooperation, EPES Alabama, Certificate of Training (1980); Services Award Humphreys County Union for Progress, Inc., Farmer's Cooperative (1979-1980); Public Service Award, Mississippi Association of Cooperative and Progressive Farmers (1980); Most Cooperative Award and Dedicated and Unselfish Service Award, Humphreys County Union for Progress, Inc. (1977-1981); The President of the United States Certificate of Appreciation in Grateful Recognition of Service as a Volunteer in Service to America during VISTA's 15th Anniversary, signed by President Jimmy Carter (1977-1981); Award in Appreciation for Services Rendered on Behalf of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives (1982); Outstanding Contribution in the Field of Civil Rights on Martin L. King's Birthday, presented by Delta Gamma Zeta Phi Beta (1983); Volunteer Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service, Presented by Governor Bill Allain (1984); Mississippi Action for Community Education Award (1986); Award for Outstanding Service as Advisory Board Member of Mid-Delta Home Health, Inc. (1988 and 1990); Outstanding and Dedicated Christian Services Award by Christ Temple Church of Wolf Lake (1990); Resolution for Outstanding Christian Services by Christ Missionary and Industrial College of Christ Church of Holiness, USA (1993); Lifetime Dedication Award for Fight for Justice, by the Humphreys County Chapter of the NAACP (1994); 20 Dedicated Years of Service Award by National Education Trustee Board (1995); Howard Bailey Achievement Award for Years of Service presented by MACE (1995); The Southern Christian Leadership Conference Award for Outstanding Community Services (1995); Humphreys County High School Award as an Outstanding Civil Rights Leader (1996); Meritorious Award for Kindness and Support by Clara Reed and Annette Austin (1996); The Sponsors Award presented by Dixie Baseball, Inc., (1996); Proclamation for "Earnest White Day" by Belzoni Mayor Thomas Turner (1998); Award for Dedicated Christian Worker, Deacon for 60 years and Chairman of the Church Board for 38 years, by Church of Christ of Holiness USA (1998); The O.M. McNair Elementary School Award for Dedicated Service and Support (1998); Mississippi House of Representatives Proclamation for Many Years of Service in Helping Others, signed by Speaker Ford and Representative Rufus Straughter (1998); Humphreys County Brotherhood Association Award for Human Justice (1999); Mississippi House of Representatives Proclamation for 30-Plus Years of Service Provided to Mississippi Action for Community Education, signed by Speaker Ford and Representative Robert Clark (2002); Appreciation Award by FCM, Inc., Board of Directors (2002); Award for Outstanding Service to Helping Hands of Humphreys County (2003); Certificate of Appreciation in Recognition of Support Given to the Community Development Agency and Participants, by Friends of Children of Mississippi TANF to Work and Ownership (T.W.O.) Project (2002); and Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service in the 1960's Civil Rights Movement by Mid-Delta Daycare (2003); and

     WHEREAS, as a result of these achievements and awards, Earnest White has served as a model citizen to the members of his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the many years of charitable service and civic leadership of Honorable Earnest White of Belzoni, Mississippi, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Legislature for future successes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mr. White and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
