A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MEMBERS OF THE MURRAH HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT DURING THE 21ST ANNUAL MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION.

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team recently earned Second Place in the State Finals of the 2004 Statewide Mock Trial Competition;

     WHEREAS, the Young Lawyers Division of the Mississippi Bar Association hosted the 2004 Statewide Mock Trial Competition finals in Jackson, Mississippi, where 20 high school teams from around the state advanced to the finals out of the original 41 teams that competed in regional competitions in Jackson, Oxford, Gulfport and Hattiesburg; and

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team was the only team from the Jackson Public School System competing in this year's competition; and

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team was undefeated through six rounds of competition, winning the regional competition in January and advancing to the final round in the statewide competition in February; and

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team consisted of the following students:  Julius Fleming, David Dennis, Tala Talaee, Natalie King, Joel Russell, Gwen Ballard and Candace King; and

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team exhibited the utmost professionalism throughout the competition and displayed a high degree of sportsmanship; and

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team exhibited a complete mastery of the mock trial materials which was the direct result of their countless hours of hard work after school for a period of over three months; and

     WHEREAS, the team was superbly coached, mentored, and inspired by their teacher, Linda Walters, and attorney volunteer Sharon Day, who gave of their own time and money to make the experience a positive and lasting one for the team members; and

     WHEREAS, the 2004 Murrah High School Mock Trial Team has brought great honor to Murrah High School and the Jackson Public School System; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF

MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN,

That we do hereby commend and congratulate the members of the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team for their outstanding achievement during the 21st Annual Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition, and we extend our heartiest wishes for success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team, to Murrah High School, and made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
