Senate Concurrent Resolution 583

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING GAYE WINTER FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JEFFERSON DAVIS CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS, Gaye Winter, a resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

     WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

     WHEREAS, Gaye Winter, an English instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past five years and has taught for the past eighteen years; and

     WHEREAS, Gaye Winter received her Bachelor of Science degree in English/Spanish and Master of Science degree in English from Eastern Kentucky University; and

     WHEREAS, Gaye Winter is Yearbook Sponsor, member of the National Council of Teachers of English, Two-Year College English Association, College English Association and Mississippi State University Fellow; and

     WHEREAS, Gaye Winter is a Mississippi Humanities Council Award winner, President of Junior Auxiliary, Mississippi Theater Association Committee member, Gulf Coast Opera Auxiliary member, Gulf Coast Carnival Association member, Gulfport Little Theater performer and Lynn Meadows Discovery Center Advisory Board; and

     WHEREAS, Gaye Winter is a lifetime member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Alumni Association, Bulldog Club, Faculty Association and Faculty Representatives on the Alumni Board and Heart Walk Team Captain; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such an outstanding teacher as Ms. Gaye Winter, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Gaye Winter, for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes of success in her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Gaye Winter and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
