A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS BRITTANIE NICOLE ELLIOTT, A SENIOR AT OKOLONA HIGH SCHOOL, FOR WINNING THE 2004 WENDY'S HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLAR/ATHLETE HEISMAN AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Brittanie Nicole Elliott, 18, a Senior at Okolona High School, is the winner of the 2004 Wendy's High School Scholar/Athlete Heisman Award-Female; and

     WHEREAS, Brittanie has a 3.8 GPA and takes an active role in the following Okolona High School activities:  Okolona High School Marching Band, Varsity Track, Captain of the Cheerleading Squad, Okolona High School Basketball, English Club, DECA, President of Peer Helpers, Vice President of the Frontline Team (a partnership for a healthy Mississippi), President of the Student Council, HOBY Ambassador, National Honor Society, National Vocational Honor Society, United States Achievement Academy, Who's Who Among High School Students, Who's Who Among High School Athletes, National Honor Roll and Principal's Honor List; and

     WHEREAS, her specific high school awards are a matter of record:

     Band Awards:  Most Outstanding 9th and 10th Grader, Most Improved 11th Grader, Best Performance in Honor Band Clinic, Most Outstanding Performance in Northeast Mississippi Band Clinic;

     Academic Awards:  Highest academic average in Reading/Literature, Cooperative Education, creative writing, Computer Discovery; Honor Roll since 1st grade;

     Extracurricular Awards:  Competitive Cheering - Best Jump, Most Spirited and Best Performer; All-Star Cheerleader 1999-2002; Basketball - Most Improved 2000, Best Offense 2001, Sixth Man Award, Best Defense 1999 and 2001; Track - Most Valuable Participant 2000, 2nd Place MHSAA State Track Meet 2000, 300 Hurdles, 3rd Place MHSAA State Track Meet 2001; 300 Hurdles; and

     WHEREAS, Brittanie is active in community service and has received the following community awards:  Member Eboni Gems Jr. Sorority, Volunteer of the Year, Emerging Leader Award, Little Miss National Council of Negro Women 2000, and 2002 Golden Circle Debutante; she is a member of Jehovah Jireh C.M.E. Church and Youth Choir member; and

     WHEREAS, Brittanie is the daughter of Bridgett Elliott and the late Robert Elliott, Jr.; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishments of this student-athlete, who has brought honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Brittanie Nicole Elliott, a Senior at Okolona High School, for winning the 2004 Wendy's High School Scholar/Athlete Heisman Award-Female, and wish her continued success in her future academic and athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Brittanie and her family, forwarded to the Principal of Okolona High School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
