Senate Concurrent Resolution 542

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DELTA ACADEMY ALL-STATE GIRLS BASKETBALL GUARD LINDSAY ROY FOR BREAKING THE STATE RECORD FOR CAREER POINTS.

WHEREAS, shooting basketballs is something that Lindsay Roy possibly does better than anyone who plays girls basketball in Mississippi, and maybe better than anyone in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Delta Academy All-State Guard has broken the state record for career points at 4,694; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay Roy, a 5'-9" Junior, was a member of this year's The Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen.  She averaged 23.1 points last season and is averaging 26.8 this year.  She averaged 26.2 points per game, 7.1 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.4 assists and led Delta Academy to a 42-4 record and the Mississippi Private School Association Overall semifinals last year as a Junior.  She made 59.4% from the 3-point range and 81.3% from the free-throw line.  Lindsay, a two-time Dandy Dozen pick, averaged 23.1 points and made 59.8% from the 3-point range and 89.7% from the line as a Junior; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay Roy is one of the best pure shooters in the State of Mississippi.  She has the ability to play at the highest level in college, and has a tremendous work ethic.  She has a fearless mindset regardless of who is guarding her, and is capable of hitting 50 points any night she steps on the court; and

WHEREAS, Delta Academy Coach Craig Dailey believes Lindsay can play at a high level of the Southeastern Conference, which is considered the top women's basketball league in the country.  "It doesn't surprise me when she pulls up from the timeline (30'-plus) and hits a shot.  Lindsay can shoot a 3-pointer better than some players can shoot a lay-up"; and

WHEREAS, everyone in Marks, Mississippi, knows that the Roy family is enthusiastic about basketball; and Lindsay's parents, Robert Grendel Roy and Denise Phelps, and her brother, Senior Guard Michael (who is averaging 22 points this season), are justifiably proud of Lindsay's success; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishments of this student athlete, who has brought honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Delta Academy All-State Girls Basketball Guard Lindsay Roy for breaking the state overall record for career points, and wish her success in her future athletic and academic career.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Lindsay Roy and her parents, and be made available to Delta Academy Coach Craig Dailey and Headmaster Hoyte Carothers, and the Capitol Press Corps.
