AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 63-15-71, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY SHALL CHARGE A $2.00 FEE PER ABSTRACT TO BE DEPOSITED IN THE HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL RETIREMENT FUND; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 63-15-71, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     63-15-71.  The department shall, upon request and receipt of proper fees, also receive a Two Dollar ($2.00) charge which shall be deposited into the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Retirement Fund and furnish any person a certified abstract of the operating record of any person subject to the provisions of this chapter, which abstract shall also fully designate the motor vehicles, if any, registered in the name of such person.  If there shall be no record of any conviction of such person of violating any law relating to the operation of a motor vehicle or of any injury or damage caused by such person, the department shall so certify.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
