AN ACT TO REQUIRE BAIL AGENTS TO PLACE A BAIL BOND IN A TRUST ACCOUNT UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE ACCUSED APPEARS BEFORE A JUDGE AND HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REQUEST THAT THE AMOUNT OF BOND BE REVIEWED; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Whenever a bail bond is set without an appearance before a judge and the accused pays the bond, the bail agent shall place the bond in a trust account until such time as the accused appears before a judge and has an opportunity to request that the judge review the amount of the bond. 

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
