Senate Bill 2144

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT A FULL-TIME FIRE FIGHTER MAY RETAIN HIS HELMET AND BADGE WHEN HE RETIRES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Each full-time fire fighter, employed in accordance with Section 45-11-203, Mississippi Code of 1972, who retires under Section 21-29-139, Mississippi Code of 1972, or the Public Employees' Retirement System, for superannuation or for reason of disability, or any other local government retirement system shall be allowed to retain as authorized by the Mississippi Legislature, as his personal property, one (1) helmet and one (1) badge which were issued to him by the local government fire fighting unit.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
