House Resolution 127

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE COURAGE, BRAVERY AND HEROIC MEASURES OF COREY BAKER IN RESCUING AND SAVING THE LIFE OF THOMAS COOPER.

WHEREAS, on April 16, 2004, Corey Baker without reserve or hesitation, bravely submitted himself to the aid of a fellow man, and thus became a true Mississippi hero; and

WHEREAS, Corey, after encountering an accident on Spillway Road, which left the vehicle of Thomas Cooper overturned and submerged in water, instantly began his successful rescue attempt to render assistance to any possible victims of the accident without considering any potential danger or material loss he might suffer as a result; and

WHEREAS, Corey's heroic efforts saved the life of Thomas, who was inside the overturned, submerged vehicle after having lost control; and

WHEREAS, while this instance could have resulted in a catastrophic end, the instinct and diligence demonstrated by Corey in pulling Thomas from the wreckage was most vital in saving him from a premature watery grave; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend heroism, especially when evidenced by the courageous and brave young people of this state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Corey Baker for his courage, bravery and heroic measures in rescuing and saving the life of Thomas Cooper.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Corey Baker and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
