A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND WORKS OF PATRICIA ANDERSON SEGREST AND EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Patricia Anderson Segrest, a longtime Warren County educator and the longest serving member of the Vicksburg Bridge Commission departed this life at the age of 58; and
WHEREAS, as an educator, Ms. Segrest wore many hats throughout her career by serving as director of testing for the Vicksburg Warren School District and working in the public school system since 1967 as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and various administrative positions; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Segrest was revered as an extremely hardworking educator who loved people and being around children; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Segrest graduated from Rosa A. Temple High School in 1963, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1967 from Alcorn State University and studied at both Mississippi College and Mississippi State University before receiving a master's degree from Alcorn State University; and
WHEREAS, as a distinguished graduate of Alcorn State University, Ms. Segrest was inducted into the school's Alumni Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Segrest was just as dedicated to her community, serving as an adjunct instructor at Alcorn and a part-time employee of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home, and participating as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Utica Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, Les Souers Charmantes Social and Civic Club, the Young Adults for Positive Action, and the Board of Directors for the Hospice Foundation; and
WHEREAS, to cherish her life, Ms. Segrest is survived by a daughter, Pamela Segrest, and a sister, Zelmarine Murphy, of Vicksburg; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute to exemplary Mississippians such as Patricia Anderson Segrest, who has devoted her life to the betterment of the education of young people in our great state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and works of Patricia Anderson Segrest and express deepest sympathy to her family during their time of loss.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be furnished to the family of Patricia Anderson Segrest and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
